Is this a cannon character? No
Character name Phoenix Rivers
Character alias (only if you have one) Sketch
Gender: Female
Side: Student
Actual age: 17
Age you look: 19
Mutant power: Animation. Able to draw things, such as weapons, and they will become real. At the moment, this is limited to non-living objects, such as axes, cars etc… The animation process takes up a lot of energy too, so it is not good in a long fight, as she will become exhausted, and may even pass out.
She does not always animate everything she draws. She can draw quite normally, without the thing coming to life.
Appearance:
Phoenix has dark brown wavy hair, and a ‘milky coffee’ type complexion. Her eyes are hazel-brown, with flecks of green in them. She has a slim build, although quite curvy. She stands roughly at 5’ 6”, and weighs in at about 98lbs. She usually wears a spaghetti-strap, light coloured top, and ¾ length jeans, along with converses. Her arms are decorated with many metal bangles, and she usually has a pair of large, loop earrings in her lobes, although she has another piercing in each ear, at the top.
She usually has a pencil perched on her ear.
Personality:
Phoenix is a thoughtful, cheerful and outgoing type person. She is rarely seen without a smile on her face, which is echoed, in her eyes. She can often be seen drawing, while listening to music, or practising yoga. She likes to be alone, although does not dislike the company of others.
She does have her faults, however. She is headstrong, meaning she will leap before she looks, in a sense. She will not stand for any kind of discrimination, mutant-based or otherwise.
She is a very loyal friend, but it takes time to get to know her well, if at all.
History:
It was a cold and stormy night, the night that Anna Rivers gave birth to her first, and only child. The rain lashed against the windows, and a steady roar of thunder was almost always present. Leonard Rivers stood by his wifes bedside, in the outback of Melbourne, Australia.
Anna and Leonard Rivers had lived a peaceful life, as farmers, in Australia. They worked hard, tilling and sowing seeds in the rarely fertile soil. Somehow, they managed to scrape by on the little they earned.
Phoenix was born on the third day of harvest, and her mother died in childbirth. Her father was devastated. He had gained one member to their small, select family unit, yet lost the wife he adored.
At first, Phoenix and her father lived the simple life. It was hard, as Leonard had no-one to help him on the farm, and he had no money to employ anybody. Father and daughter survived on potatoes, and that was about it.
Soon enough, Leonard decided that there was no longer any reason for them to stay. The soil was exhausted, they were up to their shoulders in debt, and Phoenix needed schooling. So he sold the farm, for a handsome price, to his surprise, and he moved away from his old life with his two-year-old daughter.
Phoenix and Leonard moved to the USA, and began rent on a studio flat in New York. He started work in an advertising firm, which paid fairly well. He left Phoenix at a nursery, where she was a happy, healthy baby.
When Phoenix was seven, Leonard explained to her why her mother had died. He told her that her mother was an angel, and that she had come down from Heaven for a while, so she could make another angel. Then she had to go back. Phoenix didn’t really understand, as she was too young, but she knew that her mother was watching over her now.
Even as a little girl, Phoenix had loved drawing and sketching things. She was extraordinarily good at this, and spent most of her spare time drawing. She could barely read or write for unknown reasons, but she didn’t care. When she was twelve, and had started a comprehensive school, her powers began to manifest. It happened, unfortunately for her, in the middle of an art lesson. She and her classmates had been drawing some kind of African tribal masks. With absolutely no warning, Phoenix’s materialised out of the page, and onto the desk in front of her. She was shocked. So was her teacher. She was sent to the Principals office, and ordered to explain. Phoenix couldn’t explain. It was impossible. She was sent home, for apparent insolence.
When Leonard heard the news, he was not surprised. His family had had mutant genes in them for generations. Phoenix had had it passed into her. Leonard had heard of a school for Mutants- Xaviers. He certainly didn’t want his daughter being bullied at some normal school for her abilities. So somehow, he found out where Xaviers was, and took his daughter there for an interview. Charles Xavier accepted her into his academy.
Phoenix gave herself the alias Sketch, and continued to draw and practise her animation. She made a few friends, but none of them got close.
Now in her fourth year at Xaviers, Phoenix hopes to join the X-Men in the future.

The TV showed all the same channels, Phoenix observed, as she flicked through the news. She could grasp flickers of speech in between her hopping.
“Fire at…”
“Supposedly caused by…”
“Mutants register…”
Phoenix froze at the last statement. She rapidly flicked back about three channels, searching for the mutant headlines. There.
A blonde woman was standing next to a graph, pointing to the steady rise of mutant activity, and saying how it was getting humans ‘worried’.
Phoenix snorted. There was nothing WRONG with mutants. Take her for example. Had she ever killed someone? No, was your answer.
But she knew there were others out there. Mutants who believed they were superior. Called themselves the Brotherhood or something. Yeah, they were dangerous.
Phoenix glanced down at the pad of plain paper beside her. She flipped it open, and scanned the first picture. It was a highly detailed sketch of an angel. She had seen a mutant like that. He was on the good side though. Wasn’t his name Angel?
(Kinda crummy, yes…)
