character name: Kane Gem
character alias (only if you have one): Daemon
gender: Male
side: Neutral
actual age: 28
age you look: 28
mutant power (not applicable if human): His fingers are claws, and he has a set of bat-like wings from his physical mutation. His primary power, allows him to manipulate a mysterious black flame which he has dubbed 'hellfire'.
appearance (A picture and/or a description): Kane is about 6'5", with black hair, and eyes that change color between blue and green. As a part of his physical mutation his fingers are 'claws', not just the nail, all of his finger. He likes to wear polyester outfits, mostly because they let his skin breath, and doesn't like wearing long sleeve shirts or jeans. As another result of his physical mutation, he has two large bat-like wings that he can force into his body so it's easier to hide. They have about a six foot wingspan.
personality Please spend a little time on this: Kane describes himself as a guy that 'could get along with anyone once'. Meaning, that he can get along fine with someone the first time, but every subsequent time, he gets more and more annoyed with people he doesn't like. He's an easy guy to get along with, and while he doesn't particularly like to party, he would if he found someone to party with.
history Be Detailed!: Kane was abandoned as an infant. His mother, a teenage girl, left him in a theme park. He was found by one of the park employees, a young woman who brought him home.
She raised him like her own, and when he was old enough, told him about where she found him. Kane wasn't the slightest bit curious as to who his real parents were, for him, they'd renounced all right to even think about him, and the woman that raised him was his real mother.
Unfortunately for Kane, he had trouble making friends, and often had to play alone as a child. His one friend was a girl who moved away when he was ten, and he has yet to meet her again. He has forgotten her name, but will never forget her face.
When he was fourteen, his mutant abilities began to emerge. It started off simple enough, he woke up one morning and his sheets were ripped to shreds. He'd thought for a moment that the cat might have gotten in, but immediately dismissed it because the cat had been declawed. The answer awaited him when he looked at his hands. His fingers had become razor sharp, he'd been scratching at the bedding all night.
His mother, knowing the prejudice mutants were being put through, bought him a new set of sheets, told him everything would be alright, and made him a set of gloves so that no one would notice his first mutation.
A few weeks later, his more noticeable mutation began to take root. He was looking out over the roof of the apartment building at the city below, when a particularly strong gust of wind caused him to lose his balance, and he fell from the railing. As he fell, he heard a ripping sound, and his shirt was torn in half, the large wings bursting from his back, and he flew excitedly around the city, thrilled with his new power. When he landed on his building again several hours later, a slight fear rose up within him, and his only thoughts were that he had to find a way to hide the wings. Then, he felt a sharp pain, and the wings folded up into his back.
He went through the next couple of years without much problem, and thought he'd be alright. His true 'ability' finally appeared three days after his graduation from high school. He was walking home from movie theater, preferring walking to risk be seen flying in broad daylight, or driving in the dangerous city streets. He was just walking when he saw someone being mugged in an alleyway.
He stepped in, and shouted in an attempt to scare the muggers away. That didn't happen. They tossed the woman aside and went toward him. In a second attempt to scare them away, he spread his wings, tearing his shirt away. This caused the muggers to be afraid, true, but all they did was fire on him. They missed, for the most part, but a single bullet pierced one of his wings.
Rather than pain, he was filled with anger that his wings had been damaged. He felt his body fill with heat, and he made to punch the closest man. His fist fell short, but a small stream of black flame shot out at the man, setting his jacket on fire. Looking down at his hands in surprise and fear, Kane took off into the air, forgetting the muggers, who ran from the scene anyway.
Over the next few years, Kane slowly got a handle on his new ability, becoming able to force the flame into a variety of shapes and forms. As a test, he discovered that the flame couldn't burn him, but, much to his charred finger's disappointment, normal fire still did.
He currently lives in a small apartment, alone, and runs a small convenience store for the elderly owner, who promised to transfer full ownership of the store to Kane after his passing.
rp sample This is required for us to be able to access your rping abilities.: James stood on a rooftop in the center of the city. Depending on where he looked, he could see anywhere. It was his favorite time of day too, dusk. The sky and clouds were a mix of pink and orange, and he couldn't wait to set off among them.
Picking to go off in the direction of the wind, he turned so his back was away from the sun, got up into a run, and jumped from the building. His jacket flew up from the force of his wings, and he just managed to keep it from covering his face.
He darted around buildings and skyscrapers, waving to anyone who happened to be sitting on a balcony or rooftop. He paused about twenty feet from his own apartment, and shot up into the air. Above the city, above the clouds, high up into the sky. He stopped, and waited there as the last few dregs of sunlight crept over the horizon, and the city faded into darkness.
"I love this," he said, slowly gliding back down to his apartment building.
